Othello, the Moor of Venice (Early Modern English The Tragedy of Othello, The Moore of Venice) is a play by William Shakespeare. Shakespeare's source was a story from the Italian Giraldo Cinthio's collection Hecatommithi. The author probably completed the work around 1603 or 1604. The earliest performance known from an entry in the Accounts Book of the Master of the Revelseine was a performance of the play by Shakespeare's acting troupe in the large ballroom of the royal residence in Whitehall on November 1, 1604. The German premiere took place in Hamburg in 1766.

Othello, the Moor of Venice is a play by William Shakespeare. It is about the dark-skinned general Othello, who kills his beloved wife Desdemona and then himself out of excessive jealousy, encouraged by the scheming Iago.
